What a frame actually does

A dual-camera shot has two layers: the scene from the rear lens, and you from the front lens. A frame decides how the second layer is cut out and placed on the first: the shape of the window, the treatment around it, or where the picture splits when both views get equal space.

That decision matters more than it sounds. A small rectangle in the corner says "here is my commentary". A 50/50 split says "both of these are the story". A heart or a Polaroid border says something else again. Getting it right is the difference between a clip that reads as considered and one that reads as a default setting.

Picking a frame that suits the shot

• Reactions and commentary: Small PIP or Round PIP. The scene stays dominant and your face stays present without competing.
• Two-person conversation: 50/50 Split. Equal weight reads as equal importance.
• Interviews: 70/30 or 60/40. The subject gets the larger share, the presenter stays in frame.
• Social and personal posts: the Shapes group. Heart, Star and Blob are deliberately informal and read well on vertical feeds.
• A crafted look: Polaroid, Tilted or Glow. These add a treatment rather than change the geometry, so they work with any subject.

One shot instead of two

Here you are combining two photos that were taken separately, which means two moments, not one. The iPhone app removes that gap: it captures the front and back cameras at the same instant, with the frame already applied, and saves the result as a single file. That works for stills through Photo mode and for video, so a reaction you cannot stage twice is caught in one shot.
